As a member of the hardcore crew Mobb Deep, Prodigy lost some fans the minute they signed with 50 Cent's G-Unit, and their first full-length for the label, the merely fair Blood Money, didn't help in the least. Prodigy's solo album, Return of the Mac, is the return to form that follows with sinister beats, cold rhymes, and most importantly the Alchemist. Prodigy - Return Of The Mac a k a New York Shit R.I.P P. Mar 27, 2007 At a time when his credibility and relevance were seriously in doubt, Prodigy silenced all haters with Return of the Mac. Originally released as a mixtape, this is exactly what many disillusioned followers had been waiting for, a relentlessly grimy return to form, produced entirely by the Alchemist, who crafts 14 lush backdrops that are both.

Return of the Mac is the first collaboration studio album by AmericanrapperProdigy of Mobb Deep and producer The Alchemist, released on March 27, 2007 through E1 Music. The album was intended to be a mixtape serving as a prequel to Prodigy's next album, H.N.I.C. Pt. 2, but was released as a traditional album due to the unexpected level of quality of the record. The album was produced by The Alchemist (who is featured on the cover) and it features songs sampled from the Blaxploitation era.
Return of the Mac debuted at number thirty-two on the Billboard 200, selling 27,000 copies in its first week.[9] As of December 2007, the album had sold 130,000 copies.[10] The album received notable critical acclaim, and is considered somewhat of a return to form for Prodigy, as many considered him to have 'fallen off' after the 2001 Mobb Deep release Infamy. Return of the Mac has been very successful, as Prodigy's upcoming LP, H.N.I.C. Pt. 2, became one of the more anticipated hip hop albums of 2008.
Return of the Mac has three singles with music videos directed by DanTheMan: 'Mac 10 Handle', 'New York Shit', and 'Stuck on You'.
